Because the shield machine is driving underground, the shield driver can’t see the direction and needs to rely on the data of the surveyor to operate, which requires very high measurement accuracy. And surveyors can’t see the underground situation, so shield survey is also called the most difficult survey work.

　　During this "May 1" holiday, the first domestic 16-meter super-large diameter slurry balance shield machine "Jinghua" was running 24 hours a day in the 50-meter underground west line tunnel of Beijing East Sixth Ring Road Reconstruction Project, striving for high-precision penetration of the tunnel this year. It was escorted by the survey team led by Li Weichuan of China Railway 14th Bureau.

　　Don’t look at leading the team to get used to it now. When I just graduated, Li Weichuan failed to adapt to the hard work for a while.

　　Despite the difficult conditions, Li Weichuan chose to stick to it when he saw that shield machines were still rare in China at that time and there were very few professionals engaged in shield surveying. He began to constantly learn surveying knowledge from the masters, and rechecked the excavation data and geological conditions over and over again.

　　After many projects, Li Weichuan gradually became the person in charge of surveying. I thought my measurement technology was already very proficient, but in the process of debugging the guiding system of an imported shield machine, Li Weichuan suddenly felt the gap.

　　In order to fight for breath, Li Weichuan made extraordinary efforts. In addition to surveying, he began to actively learn the knowledge of various types of work related to shield machines, and constantly summarized the problems and solutions encountered in practical work. Hard work pays off. In 2014, Li Weichuan successfully obtained the third-level (advanced) certificate of engineering surveyor. In 2021, it also passed the highest professional qualification in the construction industry — — The first-class registered construction engineer examination has completed the transformation from technical personnel to highly skilled personnel.

　　In the past ten years, he has participated in the engineering survey tasks of many important and difficult projects, such as the diversion tunnel of South-to-North Water Transfer Project, the Slender West Lake Tunnel in Yangzhou and the Beijing-Tangshan High-speed Railway.
